Autumn Will Be Here Soon

The long hot days of August are beginning to wrap up with Hotter 'N Hell 100 and school underway and that means a new season is on the horizon.  Autumn is on its way.

But, I'm not talking about the astronomical season of Autumn, instead I'm referring to Meteorological Autumn.

Both refer to the time of year when the daylight grows shorter and the temperatures drop.  But, one seasonal description is more accurate to what actually happens.

Astronomical Autumn will be on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at about 854p CT.  This marks the Autumnal equinox when the days and nights become equal with 12 hours of sunlight and 12 hours of darkness.

Meteorological Autumn begins on Saturday, September 1, 2018.  This date is based on climatology.  It's around September 1 that generally the weather situation, as averaged out over many many years, will begin to change.

The pattern will begin to bring cooler air to North America and possibly even snow to the upper elevations of the mountains.  And, as cooler air arrives as the weeks pass by eventually freezing temperatures resulting in frost and freezes will make their way south.

So, for those of you tired of the record highs and heat in the 100s . . . you can relax and say "Autumn is on its way."  And, to find out easily how much longer you have to wait I have put a count down clock to Meteorological Autumn on my blogger page.  Enjoy!
